Welcome to Yorkshire's School Counseling Program

   Mission

The mission of the Yorkshire Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive school counseling program that focuses on students’ academic, personal/social and career development in a safe learning environment that includes positive staff, parent and community collaboration, communication, and empowers students to live up to their potential.

                                                    Meet the Counselors

Claire Dennis, M.Ed., N.C.C., full-time counselor, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services Counseling from Old Dominion University and  Master of Education degree in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech.  This is my tenth year at Yorkshire. I am looking forward to working with all of our students and families. My office is located in Room 162.

Antoinette Snipes, M. Ed. (part-time Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) It’s a pleasure to serve as one of the school counselors for the new school year at Yorkshire Elementary. To begin, here are a few tidbits about my background that might interest you. I have worked in Prince William County Schools since 2000 after a year with Manassas City Schools where I started my career as a school counselor. I have a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Benedict College and I earned my Masters in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech. I am married and I have an 8 year old son who also attends school in Prince William County. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) this school year.

Classroom Guidance lessons will be presented every three weeks by the school counselors in grades K-5. They cover a variety of areas of importance in helping students learn about themselves and others in developing personal and interpersonal skills (see K-5 School Counseling Curriculum).

Individual Counseling is an important element of the counseling program. Mrs. Dennis is available for all students. Students may self-refer or be referred to the counselor by teachers and/or parents. Confidentiality is respected.

Group Counseling is provided for small groups of students experiencing similar needs. These may include anger management, friendship, family stresses (separation/divorce), social skills, organizational skills, self-esteem.
